La Chinita international Airport (IATA: MAR; ICAO: SVMC), also known as Maracaibo Airport, is the main international airport serving Maracaibo, the second largest city in Venezuela and capital of Zulia state. 

 

At first it was named Caujarito Airport given the name of the terrains where it was built but then it was changed to La Chinita to honor the saint patron of Zulia state, la Virgen de Chiquinquira. 


MAR Airport is located in San Francisco municipality in the state of Zulia, 15 km (9.3 miles) southwest from Maracaibo city centre.

Maracaibo Airport was inaugurated in 1969 to lessen the congestion from Simon Bolivar International Airport, the busiest airport in Venezuela. 

La Chinita Maracaibo international Airport (MAR) handled 2,000,000 passengers in 2010. Please note that recent passenger figures aren’t available due to Venezuela’s crisis.
