About Macau
Macau or Macao is located on the western side of the Pearl River estuary in Southern China, being the most densely populated area worldwide. The region used to be a Portuguese colony after the leasing of the territory by Ming China in 1557 but without any sovereignty over it. It was transferred back to China in 1999.
Nowadays, Macau its famous as a resort city and for gambling, even though Macau Old Town is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Interesting sites are Guia Fortress, Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul’s, A-Ma Temple, Fortaleza do Monte, among others.
