In recent history, Changsha is the seat city of the People’s Republic of China, from where Mao Zedong founded it; also housing the Yuelu Academy.

Many of the tourist attractions are remains of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, such as Mawangdui Han Tombs, a family graveyard from the Han Dynasty. Other worth to see site is the Orange Isle and Mt. Shaoshan, which features for being the hometown of Mao Zedong and nowadays is a memorial place.
