Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (IATA: ASU; ICAO: SGAS) is the main international and busiest airport serving the capital of the Republic of Paraguay, Asuncion.


The airport is for both civil and military use; in fact, it shares runways with Ñu Guasu Paraguayan Air Force base.

About the name: Asuncion Airport was named after the Paraguayan aviator Silvio Pettirossi; even though, it was previously named President Stroessner to honor Paraguay’s former head of state, General Alfredo Stroessner. It is located in the town of Luque, 10 km east of Asuncion city centre and it is also the main international hub of Paranair and LATAM Paraguay.

Asuncion Airport lies in Ñu Grande complex, where the Ñu Guasu Park is located, along with the Paraguayan Air Force base and the South American football confederation.
